What do you get when you cross
one Joe-average guy
who's temporarily "warming the bench" in the great
game of life, with an irascible, wisecracking "muse"
currently occupying the form of a
mangy, flea-bitten rodent?

A series that cuts open the onion of life, and leaves your eyes watering!

Our ‘hero’ (using the term loosely) Bert is a twenty-something urbanite who, just like the rest of us, is trying to get on with his life while avoiding the potholes and speed bumps of the modern world.

Over-educated in a field with limited employment horizons, (Masters in Marine Mammal Husbandry) Bert’s doing what he must to pay the bills working as a glorified stock boy at Drugs-R-Us.

Shy and retiring, he patiently waits for his ship to come in. One evening, hungry for a little non-judgmental companionship, Bert buys a sorry-looking, deeply discounted gerbil.

Bert soon discovers that this is no ordinary rodent. His new furry friend, Gerbo, is some kind of pint sized Svengali who takes it upon himself to push Bert, his liberator, to his full potential. Gerbo goes everywhere with his pal, riding snugly in Bert’s shirt pocket, and spouting off at any opportunity.

While you can never be sure whether Gerbo’s proddings are pearls of wisdom or mini land mines, you can always count on his rather loose grasp on the concept of political correctness!

The series revolves around Bert’s everyday life…. his neighbours, his local hangout, and his duties at Drugs-R-Us. At work, Bert interacts with his strange boss: the shadowy Mr. Ip, and a never-ending cavalcade of strange customers who flow through the store in search of products from the mundane to the downright bizarre.

On the upside, Bert’s sometime heartthrob is the store’s beauty counter consultant… the vivacious, voluptuous, and largely vacant Ms. Ferrari who is always ready to add a spark to Bert’s dismal day.

Mix it all together and you’ve got Bert's Gerbil, a fresh and funny formula for a virtually endless series of 2 x 11- minute episodes that will strike a chord with almost everyone because it deals with the funniest thing in the world: everyday life.

After all, deep down inside of every one of us there’s a little bit of the likeable, inhibited Bert… and probably a good chunk of pent up Gerbo too!
